Go Abroad

If you are interested in going on an exchange, here you will find all the information that you need. Take a look at the presentation of our info session first.
It has a lot of general information and some specifics about your program as well. Here below we will go in to more detail on when, how and where you can go abroad:

Info Session 2018-2019

Should some of your questions remain unanswered after checking this website and our info session , feel free to get in touch with your Marc [dot] Jegers [at] vub [dot] ac [dot] be (exchange coordinator Marc Jegers. )

You can go on an exchange for one semester or, preferably, one academic year in bachelor's year 3 or your (first) master's year.

In principle, you need to:

  • have obtained an average of 60% in the years before your application and in the first semester of current academic year
  • have no failed courses or courses to which you were absent before leaving

1. Select your top 3 destinations (list below)

2. Choose to go for 1 semester or 1 year

3. Provide all your results obtained during your university education including those of semester 1 of the current academic year

4. Send your application to your Marc [dot] Jegers [at] vub [dot] ac [dot] be (exchange coordinator Marc Jegers)

5. Deadline is end of first week of second semester (February 16th 2018)

All applications will be ranked according to the overall results. This will only come into play when more students apply for the same destination than the number of places that is available.

Learning agreement

After you have nominated and have received your destination, you will have to come up with a learning agreement.
In short: in your learning agreement you propose the courses that you will be taking at your guest university.
You will need to take a look at the offer of your guest university (website) yourself and come up with a proposal of your own to discuss with your exchange coordinator.

The VUB is also involved in some non-EU agreements of which you will find more information in the presentation above.

If you apply for a non-EU destination, for which places are very limited, it is best to combine this with an EU application as your backup plan.
