Uri Alon: Love and fear in the lab: a guitar talk on the emotional side of doing science

Title Love and fear in the lab: a guitar talk on the emotional side of doing science

The Talk Prof. dr. Uri Alon didn’t give an abstract, but if his name doesn’t ring a bell, check the following TED-Talk: https://www.ted.com/talks/uri_alon_why_truly_innovative_science_demands_a_leap_into_the_unknown

While studying for his PhD in physics, Uri Alon thought he was a failure because all his research paths led to dead ends. But, with the help of improvisation theater, he came to realize that there could be joy in getting lost. A call for scientists to stop thinking of research as a direct line from question to answer, but as something more creative. It's a message that will resonate, no matter what your field is.
Who is he? Prof. dr. Uri Alon is a theoretical physicist working at the Weizmann Institute, Israel, in the domain of systems biology. He’s the holder of the prestigious “Solvay Chair in Physics 2017” and will give several talks in systems biology in Belgium and also a specific talk for PhD candidates at VUB! A once in a lifetime opportunity to see this brilliant scientist and have a discussion with him!
13/10/2017: Talk + Discussion: 12u-13u15 + followed by drinks and sandwiches.
