Publishing your article in a scientific journal

Short description:

This session will address:

1. The issues facing researchers when deciding on a scientific journal for their article. The session provides some tools that can help researchers to find and assess a scientific journal. It treats the role of the peer review process and provides an introduction to the use of metrics such as the impact factor.

2. The publication process. The student is informed about the do’s and don’ts when dealing with scientific editors and publishers.

3. Evolutions in scientific publishing. In the world of publishing, new developments are taking place, such as the increased importance of open access. The opportunities and challenges those evolutions bring about for the author will be discussed.

Being able to select publication sources suitable for a research topic and critically judge the aspects which determine the scientific level of a journal.

Previous knowledge:

Basic familiarity with academic research. The session is aimed at researchers with no knowledge or only basic knowledge of the publication process.
