On campus Kaai there is a central closed bicycle shed on the parking.

Showering after your bike ride

After cycling you can take a free shower:

  • campus Etterbeek: at the Sports Complex after presenting your sports card (€5, to be bought at the Sport Service)
  • campus Jette: building B (changing rooms of the Kinetiek, with lockers)

VUB Bike kit

If you frequently go to the campus by bike, you can ask for a bike kit. The bike kit includes:

  • a fluorescent vest or rain cover
  • leg straps
  • the cycling map of the Brussels Capital Region 
  • the prevention guide for cyclists

Send your details (name and route (from-to)) to the mobility manager and a bike kit will be waiting for you at the Prevention and Environment Department, building M, room M008 (for campus Etterbeek). On campus Jette, you can ask for a bike kit at the reception desk of the medical library. On campus Kaai you can ask for a bike kit at the reception desk (open on working days from 08:00 am to 06:00 pm) in building A, Nijverheidskaai 170 1070 Brussels.

After receiving your bike kit you will also receive bike news from the VUB per e-mail. 

Commuting between campuses

Brussels is becoming ever more bicycle-friendly. When you’re on a bike you control your own travel time, regardless of traffic jams. The distance between campus Etterbeek and campus Jette is approximately 11 km (25 minutes)

With the Active modes map of the Brussels Capital Region you can map out your ideal route (included in your free VUB-bike kit) can be requested from the mobility manager.

You want to explore Brussels by bike but you would like some personal guidance? Find it through these initiatives:

  • Bike Experience: receive personal advise from a coach who knows your cycling route like the back of his hand
  • VUB bicycle school for students and staff: go cycling in group and learn good cycling behaviour in Brussels' busy traffic. Contact the mobility manager.
  • Just moved to Brussels? Ask the mobility manager to help find you a godmother or godfather to advise you on a cycling route. 

Rental bikes

Biking Hub Triomflaan

This workshop rents out citybikes and mountainbikes for a period of 1 day to 1 year, with a discount if you represent your studentcard.

  • Opening hours? Tuesday to Thursday from 13h to 17h30, Friday from 16h to 20h

VilloDo you need a bike in Brussels for only a short while? Use a Villo rental bike. You pick up a Villo bicycle from a Villo hub and leave it at another Villo hub, elsewhere in the city. Most Villo hubs are located near public transport stops.

  • Cost? €32 for an annual subscription, but thanks to the Villo-action of Br(ik you get a discount of 50%. Daycards (€1.60) or weekcards (€7.65) can be bought at the terminal at the Villo hub.

Blue-bike, the blue rental bikes of railways, is available in 42 stations in Belgium. 

An annual student subscription costs only €3 (you also receive two free rides ) when you use the promotional code stu017bb12. For a rental bike you pay €3 for 24 hours. All information and subscriptions can be found on bluebike.be.

Folding bikes to rent

A biking hub (Fietspunt) rents out, maintains and repairs (folding) bikes.

To be on the safe side, call beforehand to reserve your bike so that it will be waiting for you. 

Br(ik bikes to rent

Trough Br(ik you can rent a bike for the entire academic year (€70) or per semester (#45), maintenance and bicycle lock are included. You can request one via brik.be/studentenfiets. Hurry up, when it's gone it's gone!

Bicycle repair

Biking Hub Triomflaan

The Biking Hub (Dutch: Fietspunt) is located near campus Etterbeek makes small and big bike-repairs.

  • Cost? On presentation of your student card, merely €5 (+cost of material) for small repairs and €8 for larger repairs. 
  • Other services? Purchasing of locks (€30), lights (€15) and engraving of your bike (free). 
  • Where? Triomflaan 40 – 1160 Oudergem
  • Opening hours: Tuesday to Thursday from 13h to 17h30, Friday from 16h to 20h (alternative openinghours during vacations)

Biking Hub Jette

At campus Jette the Velofixer, a bicycle repairman who brings his mobile workshop, comes over three times a year. You only pay for material costs (payment with bancontact is possible).

If you want to be informed when the Velofixer drops by, contact the mobility manager.

Comprehensive insurance for new bicycles

Insurance packages have been launched on the Belgian market providing comprehensive insurance for newly purchased bicycles (sometimes up to a year after the invoice date).
