Graduation in January (= after the first semester)

First semester graduation? Apply as of 1 September 2017!

Would you like to graduate after the first semester, meaning in January? If so, you can request this via the Student SelfService. The instructions how to do this can be found below.  

As soon as the faculty approves or rejects your request, you will receive an e-mail about this.

Attention: First semester graduation at most faculties is only possible for students whom only have exams left of first semester courses, the internship and/or the Masters thesis yet to finish. Do check your faculty terms and the different deadlines the table below.

Faculty Deadline for requesting in the Student SelfService Remarks
ES - Economic and Social Sciences and Solvay Business School At latest 1 November

The additional faculty regulations to article 132 of the Teaching and Examination Regulations is as following:

A deliberation at the end of the first examination period of the first examination session can be organised for students in a graduation year who:

1) Only need to take examinations of first semester courses; and/or
2) Only need to finish their internship, their bachelor’s and/or master’s thesis.

The  student,  who  would  like  to  make  use  of  this  possibility, requests  this at  the  latest on 1 November via the Student SelfService.

GF - Medicine and Pharmacy At latest 1 November

In the programme Master Management en Beleid van de Gezondheidszorg first semester graduation it is only possible when students only need to take examinations of first semester courses and/or finish the master’s thesis. In case the internships have not been completed it is NOT possible to graduate in January.

IR - Engineering At latest 15 November

Students in a master programme can graduate. The remaining part for which the student is required to pass an exam includes only courses from the first semester and / or the master thesis and / or the internship / professionalization and innovation project. The completion of the remaining part effectively results in a diploma. (more information in the additional faculty regulations to article 132 of the Teaching and Examination Regulations).
The student who wishes to use this opportunity must request this via the Student SelfService at latest 15 November.

LW - Arts and Philosophy At latest 1 November

A student in his graduation year may request a deliberation at the end of the first exam period of the first session on condition that he only sits an exam on course units from the first semester and/or completes his traineeship in the first semester and/or finalises his Bachelor paper or Master's thesis in the first semester.

The student must request this via the Student SelfService by 1 November.

LK - Physical Education and Physiotherapy At latest 1 November

A student in his graduation year may request a deliberation at the end of the first exam period of the first session on condition that he only sits an exam on course units from the first semester and/or completes his traineeship in the first semester and/or finalises his Master's thesis in the first semester.

The student must request this via the Student SelfService at latest 1 November

PE - Psychology and Educational Sciences At latest 1 November no additions
RC - Law and Criminology At latest 1 November

Students in a master programme in law or criminological sciences can graduate on the condition that they only need to finalise the Master's thesis in the first semester. 

Students in an advanced master programma or the postgraduate programme fiscaal recht, on condition that they only sit an exam on course units from the first semester and/or completes the traineeship in the first semester and/or finalise the Master's thesis in the first semester.

For students in a bachelor programme, bridging programme and preparatory programme and the postgraduate programme fiscaal recht module “Algemene vakken” it is NOT possible to graduate in January.

Instructions requesting first semester graduation

Log into the Student SelfService by using your NetID.

In the Student SelfService click My.Academics

The section ‘Graduations’ becomes visible within the tab page ‘My Academics’:

 

You can now click on the link ‘Apply for Graduation’.

The next page is displayed:

 

You need to click on the link ‘Apply for Graduation’ (see above) to proceed with your application. On the next screen (see below) you can select the term in which you want to graduate. After selection, you click on ‘Continue’:

 

You submit your application by clicking on the ‘Submit Application’ button:

 

You will receive a notification that the application for graduation went successfully:
