Environment and sustainability

Sustainability is not an empty statement at VUB. We are all taking action to make our university a more sustainable community. On this page you find out how we do it and how you can contribute.

Food & Drinks »

Having less meat and more vegetables is a huge first step towards a more sustainable diet. With at least two different vegetarian options on the daily menu of the VUB-restaurant, this is the perfect place to start working on reducing your ecological footprint.

Sustainable student housing

Decorating your new home doesn’t have to be expensive. Flea-markets and freecycle-initiatives are one of many ways to find what you need, while also saving money and giving objects a second life.

Mobility »

No shortage of sustainable transport in Brussels: shared bikes, public transport (train, metro, tram or bus) and carpooling take you everywhere you need to be.

Doing your part is always more fun in a group. Organisations like S.E.A., UCOS and the Green Team are always looking for like-minded enthusiasts.

Waste sorting »

Waste management at VUB has been around for a while. Apart from individual sorting bins in classrooms for the most common types of waste, about 40 other kinds are separately collected.

VUB Sustainability policy

By using a framework of 23 strategic goals, the VUB strives to incorporate this sustainability policy in all its activities.
